To whom it may Concern,
Please I need urgent help for my daughter who joins the S A Police service and was taken to Ulundi (Kwa-Zulu Natal) training centre on Sunday 2011-01-23. (Photo 01 attached) She is the only white female student that was send to Ulundi. On Monday 2011-01-24 all the female students (Black, white, coloured and Indians) hair was shaved off. Those who didn’t comply were punished with PT (Physical training).
By Wednesday 2011-01-26 she was so burned by the sun that her whole face was so swollen that she couldn’t see anymore. (Photo’s 02, 03 and 04 attached) She request medical attention from her instructors and was told that she was not on a medical scheme as yet and therefore they can’t take her to a doctor and that if she insist on treatment they will send her back home and she can re-apply next year to join the SAPS.
I am of the opinion that she is suffering of sunstroke and that she needs urgent medical treatment as she is complaining of headache, dizziness and vomiting.
I am also of the opinion that her hair was shaved against her will and against Police Regulations.
Another problem is that since all the instructors and most of the students are black, the course is in Zulu and my daughter doesn’t understand Zulu. I did contact the union SAPPU and they suggest that I must take the matter to the media as it is gross discrimination and against the labour law.
I did send this email to the National Commissioner of Police as well as the DA offices but haven’t received any feedback. I tried to get hold of Gen Bheki Cele or one of his senior officers but no one was at the office. I did find the following on News24 that explains all http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Police-get-ready-to-party-20110128
Since this morning I tried to get hold of my daughter on her cell phone and I did send several sms’s but couldn’t get hold of her. I am really concerned about her health and I would appreciate it if you could give this matter your urgent attention and that a full investigation into this be done.
Her concerned father.
