‘n Passasierstrein het naby Oos-Londen met ‘n goederetrein gebots.
‘n Woordvoerder van die passasier-spooragentskap, Nana Zenani, sê die Shosoloza-langafstand-passasierstrein het met ‘n goederetrein van Transnet gebots.
Amptenare is reeds na die toneel gestuur om die ongeluk te ondersoek. Luidens berigte is drie noodreddingshelikopters ook op pad na die toneel.
Nooddienste se personeel op die toneel sê dat tot 35 mense vasgevang was in die waens en bevry moes word.
Oos-Kaapse Departement van Gesondheid se woordvoerder Sizwe Kupelo het gesê dat vier mense ernstig beseer is en per helikopter na die hospitaal in Oos-Londen geneem is.
Die res van die beseerdes word op die toneel behandel, waar tot 20 ambulanse en 2 helikopters teenwoordig opgedaag het.
Die oorsaak van die ongeluk is nie bekend nie.

ON BECOMING A GAUTRAIN TRAIN DRIVER:
A selection and recruitment process to appoint the first three (out of a total of nearly 50) Gautrain drivers, is close to completion. All of the operational phase drivers will be South African and they will be appointed in accordance with Bombela’s Socio Economic Development obligations.
The Bombela Operating Company (BOC) has developed a new and specialized training module “Intercity High Speed Train Operation” under the auspices of the South African Quality Authority. BOC is in the process of becoming a Transport Education and Training Authority accredited training company and will train all Gautrain drivers in-house. The training will comprise several phases:
Theoretical training which includes modules on the Signaling and Automatic Train Protection systems; Simulator training which will provide comprehensive operational and emergency simulations; and
In-cab training with an instructor.
Each driver will have undergone approximately eight weeks of intensive training before being licensed to enter service.
