A dangerous festive season lies ahead for farmers and those living on farms, the agricultural union TAU SA warned on Monday.
The number of farm attacks in November in the northern regions of South Africa had exceeded the total for the first six months of this year, it said in a statement.
"The levels of physical abuse, and [the] cold-bloodedness of the attackers, seems to be unique to cases involving farm dwellers; this indicates increased intolerance and revenge," said TAU SA president Paul van der Walt.
He called on farmers to get actively involved in security efforts to protect lives and property in rural areas.
