The nationalist Swiss People’s Party have gained a record high 29 percent of the vote in national parliamentary elections after an agressive campaign that blamed foreigners for much of the crime in Switzerland. The official results released Monday by the Federal Statistics Office showed the SVP edging out the 1919 performance of 28 percent achieved by the pro-business Radical Democrats when Swiss elections were reorganized immediately after World War I. On the left, the Green movement increased to 9.6 percent from 7.9 percent of four years ago. The Socialists suffered a major setback.
