{"id":974,"date":"2007-10-13T07:39:46","date_gmt":"2007-10-13T07:39:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/afrikaansenuus.co.za\/?p=974"},"modified":"2007-10-13T07:39:46","modified_gmt":"2007-10-13T07:39:46","slug":"mozambique-translates-laws-into-chinese","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praag.co.za\/?p=974","title":{"rendered":"Mozambique translates laws into Chinese"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"justify\">Mozambique is translating its new labour law from Portuguese into Chinese for the benefit of firms from the Asian nation in the southern African country, an adviser in the labour ministry said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;The new labour law will come into operation at the end of this month and because we have many Chinese enterprises and workers in our country who do not necessarily understand Portuguese; we consider it useful to translate this important law into their Chinese language,&rdquo; Jafar Buana told AFP.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;Therefore, Chinese firms would no longer find an excuse of not understanding the law if they fail to apply it,&rdquo; he said. In a press statement at the weekend, the labour ministry commended the attitude of Chinese firms to the new labour law.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;Chinese firms, on their own, have begun to familiarise themselves with the new labour law,&rdquo; the statement said. &ldquo;For example, China&rsquo;s biggest construction company in Mozambique, La Sogecoa, has guaranteed us that it is prepared to apply the new law and to take steps to avoid conflicts in work places,&rdquo; the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;We are also delighted with the attitude of the Chinese embassy in Maputo which is trying to organise a seminar on capacity-building for companies and among Chinese workers to ensure that they respect our country&rsquo;s labour law,&rdquo; the statement said. The visibility of China is growing in Mozambique, a former Portuguese colony ravaged by a long period of civil war (1975-92), especially in the construction sector.
